Frequently asked questions

What are the new tax regime slabs for 2026-27?

Nil up to ₹4 lakh, ₹4–8 lakh 5%, ₹8–12 lakh 10%, ₹12–16 lakh 15%, ₹16–20 lakh 20%, ₹20–24 lakh 25% and 30% above ₹24 lakh. Budget 2026 did not change the slabs.

How is tax zero up to ₹12 lakh?

Under the new regime, taxable income up to ₹12 lakh gets a rebate of up to ₹60,000, which makes the tax zero. Salaried people also get a ₹75,000 standard deduction, so a salary up to ₹12.75 lakh pays no tax.

Old or new regime: which is better?

If your deductions (80C, home loan interest, HRA and so on) are large, the old regime may be better. The calculator above shows the tax under both side by side.

Does it include cess and surcharge?

Yes. The 4% health and education cess, and surcharge on income above ₹50 lakh (with marginal relief), are included.

Is this calculator final for filing my ITR?

No, it is an estimate. Capital gains, income at special rates and other rules are not included. Confirm on the Income Tax Department website or with a CA before filing.
